Episode 48: Cookbook Review: What's Gaby Cooking?
What’s Gaby Cooking?: Everyday California Food by Gaby Dalkin
Our newest cookbook review, What’s Gaby Cooking: Everyday California Food, gave us that little pep we were looking for in the depth of winter. Gaby’s take on California food is fresh, seasonal, and accessible for the home cook. From fresh market salads to mocha brownies, we had bookmarks on bookmarks of recipes we wanted to try. Gift this book to a home cook that’s starting out or looking to cook more often. Or treat yourself to a cookbook that has a rocking recipe for mocha brownies. As Betsy said (or maybe Oprah), “Live your best life!”.
Tara cooked: Lazy Girl Chicken Enchiladas with Cumin Crema. Everyone loved it. I thought I would have a half pan left but everyone had seconds. My boys even ate it for breakfast the next day! I also cooked Pavlova, Romanesco, cookie bars (x2 amazing!), carnitas, balsamic onions, guac, green rice bowls, Larb Bowls (I went a bit crazy with this book).
Betsy cooked:Southwestern Sweet Potato with Quinoa Chili.I have to tell you, I did a fantastic hot yoga class in the late morning and new that I was going to go back home and have a nice bowl of this healthy chili and just felt...like i was living my best life. I made the Perfect Roasted Potatoes and I made the Winter citrus salad, which I enjoyed.
Kate cooked: Mocha Chocolate Chunk brownies. It was perfect timing. I’d been traveling the week before and was in desperate need of a chocolate fix. The Sesame Misa Market salad was the winner. I loved that I could find everything at the store even in the middle of January. It was refreshing, delicious, and made a perfect light lunch.
